Eastern vs Western vs Southern Caribbean Cruise: Which One to Book

The Caribbean is sold in three flavors: Eastern, Western, and Southern. The route determines how many days you spend on land, how far you sail, what kind of Port you get, and how nervous you should be about a September booking. The Eastern route involves St. Thomas, St. Maarten and San Juan, often with a stop in the Bahamas or at the cruise line's own private island. Western Caribbean: Cozumel, Costa Maya, Roatán in Honduras, Belize, Grand Cayman and sometimes Jamaica. Southern route involves the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Cura§ao), sometimes with Barbados, St., St. Lucia or Grenada. The Western route involves more port days and varied activities, including Mayan ruins, cave swimming, reef snorkeling, and zip lines. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, and both the Eastern and Western routes sit right in it.
