Henri Schoeman, who won the 2016 Triathlon World Series Grand Final in which Jonny Brownlee was helped over the line by his brother Alistair, has received a decade of abuse since the race. Schoemen, then 25, was competing with Brownlee on the final leg and overtook him with 700m to go in Cozumel, Mexico. Brownlee finished second, missing out on the overall world title which would have secured him the title. Schooeman, now 20, stated that he came into the race determined to prove a point after some had questioned whether his Olympic bronze in 2016 was a one-off. He said that long-distance racing often sees athletes misjudge their pace or fuel strategy and 'hitting the wall' close to the finish line.
