Amid its supposed nightlife decline, new businesses look to revive Mill Avenue

New businesses fill vacancies and new owners introduce new concepts as the area evolves in a different direction. New businesses are emerging to revitalize Mill Avenue, a popular nightlife district known for its live music, restaurants, entertainment and bars. ASU alum Julian Wright, who opened his first establishment at Jax Thai Bar in 2000, described the area as a "robust" live music scene with bands like the Gin Blossoms and The Refreshments. He sold Jax in 2002 and opened another business nearby, The Library. Wright is also the owner of Fork & Dagger Hospitality, which operates several bars and cafes across the Valley. His latest concept on Mill Avenue is Carmen, inspired by Tulum and Playa del Carmen in Mexico. The bar will feature indoor and outdoor palapas, tropical plants and vintage surfboards to create an immersive tropical experience. While some believe that Mill Avenue's nightlife reputation is waning, others believe it offers more than a CASA bucket.
